Boosting the competitiveness of port services is one of the chief ambitions of the Guadeloupe GPM’s Strategic Project for 2019-2023. The ways of maximising this development include increasing hosting capacities and improving the performance of container truck handling.

The extension of Quay 12 of Jarry Port is part of this effort. GPMG has set a target of being able to handle container trucks with a capacity of 6,900 TEU when fully loaded (instead of the current rate of 80%) in optimal operating conditions. The project intends to extend quay 12 by 120m in length and 45m in width by putting in place two structures that will be built simultaneously:

  • A retaining wall built from the ground so that existing platform can be maintained.
  • A quay on piles, built from the sea, representing the main part of the extension.

The application for the environmental planning permit for the project as submitted in August 2021. As part of the decision process, a public inquiry will be held in the first quarter of 2022.

All of GMP Guadeloupe’s projects are driven by the “prevent-reduce-offset” approach and are designed to limit negative impacts as much as possible. Offsetting measures are planned to help conserve species of cetaceans and sea turtles in the Guadeloupe archipelago.

Work is set to start in the second quarter of 2022. It should last for 26 months.

The total budget for the project is €42m excl. tax.
